Children
My integrative approach
My approach to working with children is anchored in my belief that social-emotional skills can be taught and supported in non-stigmatizing and developmentally appropriate ways. My integrative approach incorporates play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and evidenced-based social-emotional learning strategies to help children learn to manage stress and navigate difficulties as they grow and develop. When children learn the skills needed to successfully regulate their emotions they develop a sense of their own capacity to manage stress, adapt to change and more flexibly respond to problems. This can dramatically impact their well-being, resilience and feelings of confidence and competency.
Specializing in:
Childhood Anxiety
All of us experience some degree of anxiety- this is also true for children. Although some level of anxiety is a natural part of living and does not require treatment when anxiety begins to impact on a child’s ability to engage in and enjoy age-appropriate activities it may be time to seek help. Left untreated, anxiety can cause children to miss out on important learning and social experiences contributing to the development of social and academic difficulties, substance abuse, physical illness and depression. There are evidence-based treatments to help children and families manage childhood anxiety. In addition to working with children individually, I also help parents learn to respond to their child’s anxiety in helpful ways.
